Bali club scalps Argentineans
JAKARTA (JP): Gelora Dewata, the semi-professional club of Denpasar, Bali, notched its second international on Tuesday. In a friendly match, Gelora Dewata trounced Gimnasia Esgrima, visiting from Argentina, 4-0.
It was the first defeat for the Argentinean amateur champions on their Asia-Pacific tour. The goal spree began just four minutes after the opening whistle when striker Misnadi Amrizal Pribadi blasted home teammate Ashari's 20-meter shot off goalie Fernando Casalola.
The home team took advantage of the water-logged pitch after heavy rains continued to pour throughout the second half, with local hero Ida Bagus Mahayasa and import player Fata Garcia scoring two goals. Misnadi wrapped up the demolition with a 72nd-minute header, Antara reported.
Gelora Dewata, which was disqualified from the Asian Cup Winners semifinals by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for fielding import players without proper permission, beat German third division champion SPVGG 1-0 last week. Esgrima won three and scored a draw in its previous friendlies. (amd)
