Bali bombers linked to Maluku attacks
AMBON, Maluku: Police here have linked convicted Bali bombers Imam Samudra and Amrozi, as well as deceased master bombmaker Azahari bin Husin, with wanted men in Maluku province.
Maluku Police chief Brig. Gen. Aditiyawarman said on Saturday that Imam, Amrozi and Azhari had once stayed in Haya village, Baguala, Ambon.
"Haya village is the place where Ustadz (cleric) Bahtar is focusing his activities. He leads a terrorist network in Maluku. He has met or been in contact with Imam Samudra and other terrorists," Adityawarman said.
Bahtar is among suspects on the list of people wanted by police for their roles in attacks in Maluku. "I believe he (Bahtar) is still in Maluku, and will continue searching for his hideout," Aditiyawarman said.
His statement followed the recent arrest of policeman First Brig. Syarief Tarabubun, who was accused of involvement in the attack on Villa Karaoke in Hative Besar in Baguala district.
"Our data shows that Imam Samudra stayed in Haya village in 2001, at the height of the sectarian conflict in Maluku," said Aditiyawarman. --Detik.com
