Bali Airport reports 35 flights cancelled amid Middle East conflict
As of Wednesday, 4 March 2026, at 13:00 WITA there were a total of 35 international flight schedules cancelled. Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – The management of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, reported that as of Wednesday afternoon 35 international flights had been cancelled due to airspace closures following the Middle East conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran. ‘In relation to the closure of airspace in a number of countries, we can confirm that as of Wednesday, 4 March 2026, at 13:00 WITA there were a total of 35 international flight schedules cancelled,’ said Gede Eka Sandi, Head of the Communication and Legal Division of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, in an official statement in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday. He noted that since the airspace closures began on Saturday (28 February) there had been cancellations on 20 outbound flights and 15 arrivals. For outbound routes, cancellations occurred six times on Emirates for the Denpasar (DPS)–Dubai (DXB) route, six times on Etihad for the Denpasar (DPS)–Abu Dhabi (AUH) route, and eight times on Qatar Airways for the Denpasar (DPS)–Doha (DOH) route. For inbound routes, cancellations occurred three times on Etihad for the Abu Dhabi (AUH)–Denpasar (DPS) route, six times on Emirates for the Dubai (DXB)–Denpasar (DPS) route, and six times on Qatar Airways for the Doha (DOH)–Denpasar (DPS) route. In terms of passenger numbers, outbound travellers from I Gusti Ngurah Rai were recorded at 5,905 people who ultimately did not fly, but Eka Sandi did not record the number of inbound passengers. Regarding the handling of thousands of affected travellers, the operator said that airlines have attended to their passengers. Although the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran continues to disrupt international flight traffic to the Middle East, Eka Sandi said that outside those routes, operations remained normal and functioning optimally. The management of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) pledged to continue monitoring airspace conditions in the Middle East region and to keep coordinating with several agencies, particularly the airlines, to continually update schedules. Airspace monitoring is coordinated with AirNav Indonesia and security authorities to anticipate security situations around the airports. I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport has also prepared contingency for the affected aircraft, namely five aircraft belonging to Etihad, Emirates and Qatar Airways. ‘We also provide a help desk area for airline services and coordinate with the Immigration Office to provide immigration service counters for the processing of Emergency Stay Permits (ITKT) for affected passengers,’ he said. The help desk and immigration counters are located on Level 2 of the International Departure Terminal, where the airport also provides free light snacks and beverages daily to affected passengers. ‘The management urges prospective air travellers to keep in contact with their airlines for updated flight information,’ said Eka Sandi.
