Bali accelerates protection of productive land through LP2B data collection

The Bali Provincial Government is accelerating the protection of productive agricultural land through the mapping of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B). Governor Wayan Koster stated the administration is committed to speeding up protection efforts via data collection and the designation of LP2B across all regencies and cities in Bali. The commitment was conveyed during a meeting with the Director General of Spatial Planning at the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, Suyus Windayana, where Koster expressed full support for accelerating LP2B data collection as a strategic step to maintain food security while controlling the rate of land conversion, which poses a serious challenge in Bali. “We protect our productive land, and we fully support it with strengthened infrastructure,” said Governor Koster. The regulatory framework includes Bali Provincial Regulation No. 4 of 2026 on the Control of Productive Land Conversion and the Prohibition of Nominee Land Ownership, and Provincial Regulation No. 2 of 2023 on the Provincial Spatial Plan for 2023–2043, which serves as a guideline for sustainable regional development. “We also have a bylaw to protect productive land; investment permits will not be issued for it. The province also provides incentives so that productive land is not built upon. Development of tourism facilities or other projects is allowed, as long as it is not on productive land, and this is already being implemented in Bali,” he said. The policy is considered relevant to Bali’s future development direction, which seeks to maintain a balance between economic growth, environmental conservation, and the sustainability of the agricultural sector as the cultural and social foundation of Balinese society.
