Baleg Leader Requests Government Explanation on PPRT Bill Status: Don't Let It Stall
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Legislation Body (Baleg) DPR RI, Martin Manurung, has requested an explanation from the government regarding the status of several Draft Laws (RUU) initiated by the DPR RI that have been sent to the Government, including the Domestic Workers Protection Draft Law (RUU PPRT). He urged that these bills, once sent, should not be allowed to stall. This was stated by Martin during a working meeting held by Baleg with the Minister of Law and the DPD RI on the National Legislation Programme for Priority Draft Laws for 2026, in the Baleg DPR RI Meeting Room, last Wednesday (15/4). The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Law RI, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, or Eddy Hiariej. On that occasion, Martin said that the DPR RI is awaiting a Presidential Letter (Surpres) and a Problem Inventory List (DIM) from the Government to continue discussions on several Draft Laws, including the RUU PPRT. Martin sought certainty on the stages of forming these Draft Laws, especially the RUU PPRT. “Regarding the Draft Laws that have been completed on our side and are DPR-initiated Draft Laws, I ask that from the Deputy Minister, from the government, you explain to us what their status is now in the government. So that they don’t stall later,” said the Chairman of the DPP of the NasDem Party. “Those that have been completed, for example, the RUU PPRT which we finished recently, and the Copyright Draft Law we finished. So that we can check with each other,” added the Chairman of the PPRT Draft Law Working Committee. In response to Martin, Deputy Minister Eddy Hiariej explained that there is no Presidential Letter for the RUU PPRT at present. “For PPRT, that’s correct, sir, we are waiting for the Surpres from the President for internal government processing,” Eddy added.
