Baleg DPR Targets Completion of the PPRT Bill This Year
Jakarta — Chairman of the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Bob Hasan, has targeted that the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (PPRT) can be completed and enacted within this year. He said the DPR will continue to open participation from the public to provide input so that the drafting of the RUU can be finished promptly, before entering the discussion stage.
“If this year is certain, then yes. But for the month, I cannot estimate like that,” Bob said in the parliament complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
On Thursday, Baleg DPR RI invited Komnas Perempuan, Yayasan Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Indonesia (YLBHI), Jaringan Nasional Advokasi Pekerja Rumah Tangga (Jala PRT), Jakarta Feminist, and the Serikat Pekerja Rumah Tangga (SPRT).
According to him, the various inputs received would help refine the draft of the RUU. Subsequently, the body would resume deliberations when the session begins, which starts on 10 March.
He said that the aspirations expressed by the public would be accommodated by the DPR’s Baleg. Afterwards, he would hear the government’s views through the Ministry of Manpower as the body related to the RUU.
“Naturally, all that forms the hope behind the comments that will be included in the substantive contents,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lita Anggraini, National Coordinator of Jala PRT, urged the DPR and the government to immediately enact the PPRT Bill because it is very urgent to prevent violence against domestic workers.
“This is urgent to prevent violence, discrimination against domestic workers, and has been awaited for 22 years,” Lita said.
