JAKARTA - The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Legislation Body (Baleg), Bob Hasan, stated that the revision to the Law on General Elections (RUU Pemilu) will remain a bill proposed under the DPR’s initiative.

Nevertheless, he assured that the drafting of the RUU Pemilu would still take into account evolving dynamics.

“If the Pemilu (bill) is indeed an initiative and it remains with the DPR. But we have to look at the schedule, right? And then what’s happening these days, that can become, uh, one part of positioning the content, the material for the future,” said Bob at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (30/4/2026).

“Not yet, there are no notes on that, right. Up to today in Baleg, we haven’t received information that the Pemilu RUU will be withdrawn by the government. Not yet,” said Bob.

Previously reported, PAN’s Deputy General Chairman Saleh Partaonan Daulay proposed that the initiative for the RUU Pemilu be taken over by the government to avoid partisan interests pulling in different directions from the start.

According to him, if the government takes the initiative, differences in views among political parties can still be accommodated during the discussion of the inventory of problems list (DIM) stage.

Saleh acknowledged that discussing the RUU Pemilu is not easy because each political party has its own interests, from the stages of forming organisers to the counting and determination of election results.

Yusril stated that the government is ready to negotiate to become the proposer of the RUU Pemilu draft if the drafting process in the House of Representatives (DPR) is at a standstill.

“If, for example, after one and a half, two and a half years it’s still not finished, then there’s no harm in renegotiating who will submit the draft,” said Yusril when met after attending the UN Bimtek event in East Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
