Bakrie to enter Uzbekistan

JAKARTA (JP): To strengthen its presence in Uzbekistan, the
Bakrie Group of Indonesia will participate in the bidding for the
reconstruction of the telecommunications network in Tashkent.

The group said in a statement yesterday that it had discussed
the new project and also its other projects in Uzbekistan with
the visiting telecommunication mission here.

Bakrie has formed a joint venture with Uzbektelecom to
participate in the modernization and reconstruction of
communications network in Uzbekistan. This joint venture will
provide telecommunications services in four regions of that
country worth US$220 million in investment.

Bakrie has also acquired the biggest hotel in Tashkent, the
capital of Uzbekistan. (rid)
