Jakarta – Bakrie Group’s holding company, PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk. (BNBR), has signalled interest in developing a data centre business. Through its subsidiary, PT Multi Kontrol Nusantara (MKN), BNBR has purchased land in Kalideres, West Jakarta to construct an inner-city data centre.

BNBR Chief Executive Anindya Bakrie stated that IT infrastructure has fundamentally shifted from telecommunications towers and fibre optics to data centres. Consequently, MKN has been assessing suitable locations within Jakarta for data centre development.

“MKN recognises that IT infrastructure has evolved from telecommunications towers and fibre optic networks to data centres,” Bakrie explained following a shareholders’ meeting at Bakrie Tower on Friday, 27 February 2026. “Together with other group members, MKN is evaluating whether specific locations within Jakarta could be attractive for data centre development.”

Bakrie highlighted that the most critical components for data centre construction are land and electricity. He noted that electrical power is one of Bakrie Group’s key strengths.

However, Bakrie indicated that data centre development will only proceed once BNBR secures an appropriate strategic partner. “We naturally only wish to undertake this venture if we secure a strategic partner with data centre expertise,” he stated, declining to provide further details on partner negotiations. “We shall reveal developments in due course,” he added.

For the current year, Bakrie explained BNBR will focus on strengthening existing business lines. In the oil and gas sector, he identified potential opportunities from government efforts to increase production volumes. In non-oil and gas operations, Bakrie cited government infrastructure initiatives as market opportunities for BNBR, including gas pipeline projects and electric vehicle manufacturing through PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk. (VKTR).

Additionally, Bakrie highlighted a new business venture in 3D printing through PT Modula Sustainability Indonesia. He suggested this technology could support the government’s three million homes programme. “As the government is making substantial efforts to construct three million homes annually, 3D printing technology could prove an efficient and rapid construction method if it meets expectations,” Bakrie noted.
