Bakrie & Brothers explores data centre expansion opportunities
Jakarta – PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) Chief Executive Officer Anindya N. Bakrie has announced that the company is exploring opportunities to expand into the data centre sector as part of its forward-looking business development strategy.
The data centre opportunity capitalises on the role of BNBR subsidiary PT Multi Kontrol Nusantara (MKN), which specialises in systems integration, network services, optical fibre infrastructure, and strategic information technology (IT) solutions.
“We have a company called MKN. This is an established company with considerable experience in the IT sector. MKN has recognised that IT infrastructure, which previously focused on telecommunications poles and fibre optic networks, has now evolved,” Anindya told media representatives following the company’s Annual General Meeting in Jakarta on Friday.
Anindya noted that IT infrastructure development has historically been synonymous with telecommunications infrastructure and fibre optic networks. However, contemporary IT infrastructure requirements have evolved significantly towards data centre facilities.
“Previously, we discussed telecommunications poles and fibre optics. Today’s IT infrastructure is data centres. So, together with other group members, MKN has also identified this opportunity,” he stated.
Anindya indicated that the company’s exploration of data centre sector expansion is currently in the feasibility assessment phase, with focus on identifying strategically located sites, particularly within the Jakarta metropolitan area.
He emphasised that several critical factors determine data centre viability, notably land availability and adequate electricity supply. “The most important factors for a data centre are, firstly, land, and secondly, electricity supply. Here lies one of our group’s strengths – we have power generation capabilities. However, we will only pursue this venture if we find a strategic partner with genuine data centre expertise,” Anindya explained.
In terms of financial performance, PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk recorded net revenue of Rp3.74 trillion throughout 2025.
