Bakom Urges Public to Monitor Targeted Subsidised Fuel Policy
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Government Communication Body (Bakom) Muhammad Qodari has urged the public to participate in monitoring the subsidised fuel oil (BBM) policy to ensure its distribution is accurately targeted at those entitled to receive it.
Speaking in Jakarta on Thursday, Qodari stated that subsidised fuel is intended for vulnerable communities and underprivileged groups, including online motorcycle taxi drivers who still use subsidised fuel types.
“Subsidised fuel is allocated for communities in need, including online motorcycle taxi drivers, the majority of whom still use Pertalite,” Qodari said.
He explained that based on research data he reviewed, approximately five per cent of online motorcycle taxi drivers use Pertamax, while around 95 per cent use Pertalite.
According to him, this indicates that the impact of the Pertamax price increase is felt more by groups using non-subsidised fuel.
He affirmed that fuel subsidies are maintained to this day to support specific community groups and business sectors requiring state assistance.
“The subsidy is still maintained until now and there has been no increase,” he stated.
Qodari also appealed to the public to help supervise the distribution of subsidised fuel to prevent misallocation in its field implementation.
“Do not let this advocacy or support be misdirected. Do not support those who own luxury cars,” he said.
Qodari conveyed that the government has consistently designated recipients of subsidised fuel as underprivileged community groups and business sectors needing state support. Meanwhile, non-subsidised fuel is provided to affluent groups, so its price follows market price dynamics.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the Pertamax price increase still affects its users, but this group is considered to have room to make adjustments.
“Indeed, there will certainly be an impact, but because they have better economic capacity, they also have room to make various adjustments,” Qodari said.
