The government has reported progress on the number of beneficiaries from the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. As of May 2026, the government records that the number of MBG beneficiaries has reached 61.9 million. “The number of registered beneficiaries reaches 61,991,412 people or 74.8% of the total target of 82.9 million beneficiaries,” said the Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom), M Qodari, at his office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Qodari stated that there has been an increase in the number of MBG beneficiaries in line with the growing number of SPPG units holding Hygiene and Sanitation Certificates (SLHS). He mentioned that there are 15,735 SPPG units that already have SLHS. “The number of registered SPPG units is 28,390 SPPG units. With 15,735 SPPG units or 55.42% of them having the Hygiene and Sanitation Certificate or SLHS,” said Qodari. He stated that there are other positive impacts from the implementation of MBG. For example, according to him, there has been an increase in sales from food suppliers as well as improved ease of obtaining nutritious meals. “BPS has issued a report on the results of the survey monitoring and evaluation of the free nutritious meals programme. First, the percentage of students who finish the entire MBG portion increased from 66.9% in July 2025 to 69.8% in November 2025, indicating periodic improvements in menu quality and taste,” explained Qodari. “Second, during the period from January to October 2025, 85.6% of MBG suppliers recorded an increase in sales value. Third, the majority of MBG beneficiary households stated their agreement with the programme’s benefits, with the approval rate increasing from July to November 2025 across all surveyed aspects,” he added.
