Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, stated that there are currently 28,390 nutritious free meal (MBG) kitchens operating throughout Indonesia. Around half of these nutrition fulfilment service units (SPPG) possess hygiene and sanitation fitness certificates (SLHS). Qodari conveyed that 15,795 SPPG units already have SLHS. This data comes from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) as of 12 May 2026. “The number of registered SPPG is 28,390 units, with 15,795 or 55.42 percent of them having obtained SLHS certificates,” Qodari said in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 13 May 2026. According to Qodari, to date, the MBG programme has reached 61,991,412 beneficiaries. This figure represents about 74.8 percent of the target beneficiaries for President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programme, which aims to reach around 82 million people. Qodari stated that the government continues to strive to improve MBG programme governance, such as menu compilation, supervision of SPPG partners, and food hygiene standards. He conveyed that MBG is a large-scale programme that needs continuous improvement. “The government is committed to strengthening MBG governance. Strengthening is carried out from upstream to downstream,” he said. As of 11 May 2026, the Ministry of Health recorded approximately 11,921 SPPG units or MBG kitchens operating without hygiene and sanitation fitness certificates. SLHS is a certificate issued by the government for restaurants, catering services, or MBG kitchens that guarantees food safety and compliance with environmental hygiene standards. On the other hand, the Ministry of Health’s Early Warning and Response System recorded 446 MBG poisoning cases with a total of 37,693 victims during the programme’s operation from January 2025 to early May 2026. The majority of these MBG menu poisoning incidents, or 293 cases, occurred in SPPG units that do not yet have SLHS. Decision of the Head of BGN Number 401.1 of 2025 on Technical Guidelines for MBG Implementation Governance in the 2026 Fiscal Year stipulates that the requirement for SPPG to operate is sufficient by registering SLHS with the local health office. SPPG are given a maximum of three months after starting operations to obtain the certificate.
