Bakauheni Port Authority prepares four ports to anticipate surge in travellers in 2026
South Lampung (ANTARA) - The Bakauheni Port Authority (KSOP), in Lampung Province, is preparing four ports to anticipate a surge in passengers during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah or 2026 Eid homecoming and return flow.
“The main port is ASDP, then BBJ Port, Wika Beton as a supporting port, and a contingency port. In an emergency, we will use PT SMA Port. SMA can be used for RoRo vessels and Landing Craft Tanks carrying goods and motorcycles,” said the head of KSOP Bakauheni, Suratno, on Thursday.
According to him, the optimisation of Wika Beton Port and SMA will focus on goods vehicles and motorcycles to reduce congestion at the main port.
He explained that the alternative route is being prepared to reduce congestion in the event of a surge in travellers, especially on the eastern and central routes during the 2026 Eid homecoming.
Meanwhile, the Director of Road Traffic of the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Rudi Irawan, added that all ports to be operated have been evaluated based on minimum service standards.
“We ensure that the ports prepared for the Eid transportation meet minimum service standards. BBJ Port is currently considered ready for use, with the hope that the weather will also support smooth crossing services,” he said.
It is known that the National Traffic Police and cross-ministerial support have conducted monitoring to ensure the readiness of infrastructure on the Bakauheni-Merak route to anticipate a surge in vehicle traffic and ensure a smooth Eid homecoming and return flow in 2026.
