Bajaj, Kawasaki to make motorcycle
MUMBAI, India: India's Bajaj Auto Ltd. and its technology
partner, Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., are exploring
the possibility of sharing equity investment in motorcycle
manufacturing, reports the Hindu Business Line.
Rajiv Bajaj, president of Bajaj Auto, said there is a greater
likelihood of the two parties co-investing in operations abroad,
and cited Indonesia as one such location, according to the
report.
Bajaj Auto has expertise in small motorcycles and Kawasaki
wants to gain presence in that segment, the report says.
A Kawasaki team is expected in Pune, India, where Bajaj Auto's
plant is located, on March 11 for discussions.
Rajiv Bajaj said spinning off Bajaj Auto's motorcycle
operations into a separate company with Kawasaki as a stake
holder is another option being considered. In April, Bajaj Auto
and Kawasaki will launch a 125cc "global bike". -Dow Jones
