BAIS Chief Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo Resigns, Here is TNI's Explanation
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI), Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, has resigned. This step serves as accountability for the actions of rogue BAIS TNI personnel who threw acid at KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.
“As accountability, today the handover of the BAIS Chief position has been carried out,” said TNI Information Centre Head Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
However, TNI has not yet announced a new BAIS TNI Chief to replace Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo.
TNI Assures It Will Firmly Punish Soldiers Who Break the Law
Yesterday, TNI held a meeting with the Ministry of Defence (Kemenhan) to discuss TNI’s internal revitalisation. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Deputy Defence Minister Donny Ermawan, TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, Deputy TNI Commander Tandyo Budi Revita, as well as key officials from Kemenhan and TNI Headquarters.
After the meeting, TNI emphasised its commitment to strengthening law enforcement and safeguarding the honour of the state institution. This aligns with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto.
“TNI reaffirms its commitment by firmly addressing every violation of law and discipline committed by TNI soldiers. TNI states that it will not tolerate and will take firm action in accordance with applicable legal provisions, whether through military courts, imposition of disciplinary punishments such as detention and dismissal from position, or dishonourable discharge from military service,” said Aulia.
He added that TNI consistently carries out rectification followed by law enforcement against soldiers at various ranks, both officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted personnel, with various types of violations.
“Including involvement in illegal activities, and other non-criminal matters, including assaults,” stated Aulia.
TNI, continued Aulia, continues to make improvements through internal supervisions, enhancing the quality of leadership at every command level, and instilling values of discipline and integrity to all soldiers.
“This commitment also reaffirms TNI’s support for the president’s policies in strengthening the supremacy of law, and ensuring that every soldier becomes a role model in upholding the law, discipline, and national values,” he concluded.
