BAIC Unveils New Weapon, a Potential 'Killer' of the Ioniq 5 and BYD Dolphin
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT JIO Distribusi Indonesia (JDI) has officially introduced the BAIC T1 to the Indonesian market on Thursday (9/7/2026). The model becomes BAIC’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) to be marketed in the country, after previously selling only conventional and hybrid-engined models.
Chief Executive Officer of PT JIO Distribusi Indonesia, Johnnathan Salim, said the launch of the BAIC T1 marks a new step for the company as it enters the electric vehicle market in Indonesia.
“After introducing the BJ40 and BJ30 HEV last year, today we move forward into the BEV era with the BAIC T1,” said Johnnathan at the BAIC T1 launch event in Alam Sutera on Thursday (9/7/2026).
BAIC selected a product from its Arcfox sub-brand, which has long focused on developing electric vehicle technology. Following research into the needs of Indonesian consumers, the model is being marketed under the name BAIC T1.
Ahead of GIIAS 2026, BAIC has opened a pre-booking period starting 9 July, with an estimated price in the range of Rp300 million for the first 50 customers. During this period, buyers will also receive a number of offers, including special credit interest rates, a refundable booking fee, a portable charger, a dashcam, and the chance to enter a prize draw to win a car.
In terms of dimensions, the BAIC T1 measures 4,337 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,572 mm in height, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase, which is claimed to be one of the longest in the electric crossover hatchback segment.
Based on global specifications, the car is equipped with an electric motor producing 70 kW, or approximately 94 horsepower. For the top variant, the BAIC T1 uses a 42.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery capable of covering a distance of up to 425 kilometres. The car also supports fast charging technology, allowing the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.
In addition, there is a 3.5 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature that allows the vehicle to serve as a power source for external electronic devices. BAIC has also fitted the car with Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Charging, enabling it to help recharge other electric vehicles in emergency situations.
Inside, the BAIC T1 offers a panoramic glass roof measuring 2.34 square metres, a large infotainment screen, a digital instrument panel, smartphone connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and a range of driving assistance features that have become standard on modern electric vehicles.
