Bahtra Banong Appreciates Dasco's Commitment on Asset Forfeiture Bill

The Gerindra Party has praised the commitment and courage of House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad in absorbing public aspirations brought to parliament. Gerindra considers that Dasco is carrying out his position as a trust.

“We from the Gerindra Party certainly appreciate and respect the steps taken by our leader in the DPR RI as well as Gerindra Party leader Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, as clear evidence of the commitment, integrity and responsibility of one of Gerindra’s best cadres who views office as a trust,” Gerindra Party spokesman Bahtra Banong told journalists on Thursday (27/8/2026).

Dasco’s willingness to stake his position is seen as a sign of seriousness in carrying out his duties for the nation’s interest. Dasco is considered committed to eradicating corruption, enforcing the law, and promoting clean governance.

“The willingness to stake one’s position is not merely about political positioning but demonstrates a seriousness to place the nation’s interests, as well as the eradication of corruption, law enforcement and legal certainty, above personal or group interests. This is also in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to strengthen corruption eradication and deliver a clean and integrity-driven government,” Bahtra said.

Bahtra said his party understands the public’s aspirations, which have long pushed for the Asset Forfeiture Bill to be passed immediately. Therefore, Dasco’s commitment, he said, must be seen as an affirmation of seriousness in overseeing the agenda rather than merely an effort to dampen public aspirations.

“Gerindra respects and listens to public input and encourages the deliberation of this bill to be carried out seriously, openly and responsibly, so that it produces strong and effective regulation while upholding the principles of the rule of law and justice,” he said.

At the same time, according to Bahtra, Gerindra is currently focused on supporting the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and ensuring that national priority programmes run optimally and that their benefits are truly felt by all levels of society.

“For us, politics is not merely about office and power, but about trust and real work. Therefore, the commitment to eradicating corruption, enforcing the law, and the success of the government’s priority programmes must be fought for together, with the ultimate goal of delivering a stronger, cleaner and fairer nation, and increasingly tangible public welfare,” he added.

House leaders previously received activist Supriyono alias Botok from the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB) along with several colleagues at the parliament building. During the audience, the DPR committed to passing the Asset Forfeiture Bill in December 2026.

“Very well, thank you. We have heard the aspirations of all of you. Earlier in the plenary meeting, we conveyed, agreed and approved that the latest deadline for the Asset Forfeiture Bill will be passed in the plenary session on 15 December 2026,” Dasco told Botok and his colleagues.

Dasco told Botok and the others from Pati that he would provide a copy of the plenary minutes as a reference and as the DPR’s commitment to the public. In addition, Dasco said the meeting would serve as input for Commission III of the DPR, and that a more specific meeting regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill would be held later.

“That can be scheduled later. It is just a matter of when and the timing, because if you return to Pati, we can confirm the timing later, so that we can schedule a meeting to receive more complete input to enrich the Asset Forfeiture Law,” Dasco said.

Dasco said House leaders are committed to completing the Asset Forfeiture Bill according to the agreed timeline. He said there is no concern about meeting the demonstrators’ demands regarding the bill’s passage.

“House leaders are committed to completing this law on time,” Dasco said.

“We have no problem, no concern about meeting your demands. If it is not completed, then we will resign; that is not a problem,” he added.
