Bahrain Condemns Iranian Drone Attack on Its Territory

Doha (ANTARA) - The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the drone attacks by Iran on the kingdom’s territory during the early hours of Saturday (27/6).

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses Bahrain’s strong condemnation of the attacks on its territory on Saturday, 27 June, in the early hours, using several Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (drones),” the ministry stated in a release, as quoted by the official BNA news agency.

The Bahraini Foreign Ministry stated that Iran is responsible for the “undermining of peace initiatives” through these attacks.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Friday that attacks against Iran were carried out in response to an alleged attack on a merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz the previous day. Following this, the Iranian military launched attacks against several US military facilities in the Middle East.

On 2_8 February, the United States and Israel launched strikes against several targets in Iran, resulting in damage and civilian casualties. Subsequently, Iran and the US signed an electronic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 18 June to halt the military conflict.

The MoU provides a 60-day window for both parties to negotiate a final agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear programme and the lifting of US sanctions. The document also covers the lifting of the US maritime blockade against Iran and the restoration of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
