Bahrain Condemns Iranian Ballistic Missile Attack: Undermines Regional Stability Prospects
Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned Iran’s latest ballistic missile and drone attack, stating the assault violates the country’s sovereignty. In a statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency, the ministry said the attack also undermines ‘opportunities for de-escalation and stability in the region’.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to discuss the situation, with the hope of ‘ending the ongoing aggression and holding the perpetrators accountable’. Bahrain also affirmed its right to defend its sovereignty.
‘Affirming its full legitimate right to defend its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity in accordance with international law, and to hold the Iranian regime fully accountable for any escalation resulting from its continued aggression,’ the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Bahrain said sirens were reactivated to counter air strikes in the country. Residents were urged to remain calm and follow government advisories to evacuate to safe areas. ‘Citizens and residents are requested to remain calm, proceed to the nearest safe location, and follow developments through official channels,’ read a post on X.
Earlier, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard carried out an attack on US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain. The attack was in retaliation for US strikes on Iranian territory, while warning that further aggression would be met with a ‘devastating response’. Iran and the United States have each accused the other of violating a fragile ceasefire, tightening negotiations aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
‘The Revolutionary Guard destroyed eight critical US military facilities at the Ali al-Salem base in Kuwait and at the Fifth Fleet naval base at Salman Port in Bahrain,’ the IRGC said in a statement. ‘Any enemy aggression, under any pretext, even against an insignificant target… will be met with destruction,’ the Revolutionary Guard statement added.
