JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the Indonesian government is still conducting intensive communications with Iran regarding two Pertamina ships that have yet to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

Although the United States (US) and Iran have now implemented a ceasefire for the next two weeks.

“Intensive communications are being conducted regarding those two ships, insya Allah, let’s pray it can be resolved quickly,” said Bahlil during a press conference at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026) evening.

Bahlil conveyed that, given the two-week pause in the escalation in the Middle East, Indonesia hopes the issues faced by the Pertamina ships can be resolved soon.

“The total amount we take from the Strait of Hormuz for crude—we never import fuel from the Middle East, only crude from there, which is around 20-25%,” he said.

“And we are already able to obtain replacements from several countries, such as Angola in Africa, Nigeria, the United States, and some other countries. So, insya Allah, we are clear, insya Allah safe,” Bahlil added.

Previously, PT Pertamina International Shipping has been endeavouring to have two of its ships in the Arabian Gulf region cross the Strait of Hormuz.

The two ships are the VLCC Pertamina Pride, which is carrying crude oil for domestic needs, and Gamsunoro, which is serving consumer cargo.

“Both ships owned by PIS that are currently in the Arabian Gulf are still being endeavoured to cross the Strait of Hormuz,” said Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, in his statement on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
