Bahlil's Assurance: Energy Supplies Secure, Subsidised Fuel Prices Will Not Rise
The government has assured that domestic energy stocks are secure amid the current geopolitical conflicts. This certainty was conveyed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, following energy diplomacy in Russia. “I followed up on crude oil for one year from this month until December, Insyaallah it’s already secure. So we don’t need to worry, we just need to increase production from our refineries,” Bahlil stated at the Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (17/4/2026). He also guaranteed that national interests are always prioritised, including for imported oil prices. “Clearly, we will try not to exceed market prices. Prices below market are much better, but at least equal to market prices,” Bahlil said. The unchanged subsidised fuel prices, according to Bahlil, are a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto. “Subsidised fuel prices will not be raised until the end of the year,” Bahlil emphasised. Once again, he conveyed that the government has followed up on steps to secure national energy supplies to ensure the availability of domestic crude oil until December 2026. “So we don’t need to worry,” Bahlil stressed. Through this cooperation with Russia, it is hoped to be an effort for Indonesia to strengthen national energy resilience. “The most important thing is cooperation in the energy sector, which is expected to be part of strengthening national energy resilience,” said Sugiono, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Geopolitical developments were also one of the topics discussed between Prabowo and Putin at the Kremlin Palace. “In addition to bilateral meetings, a tete-a-tete meeting was also held in a lunch format that discussed several matters related to geopolitical developments that are also a concern for both countries,” Sugiono said. “Several future plans were also made around strengthening economic relations between the two countries and relations between citizens of Russia and Indonesia,” Sugiono added.
