Bahlil Unhappy with Golkar's 102 DPR Seats, Demands Cadre Upgrade Ahead of 2029

Ketum Partai Golkar Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the quality of his party’s cadres is not inferior to others. However, Bahlil feels dissatisfied with the number of Golkar cadres currently sitting in Senayan. This was revealed by Bahlil during his welcoming speech at the Golkar Party Academy Training of Trainers event on Monday (3/8/2026). The event was held at the Golkar Party DPP office in West Jakarta. “In my experience as General Chairman of the Golkar Party for almost two years, less 17 days, I was elected on 20 August 2024. Today is 3 August, meaning in 17 days I will have completed two years as General Chairman of the Golkar Party. In that experience, I see it is not an exaggeration to say that the quality of Golkar Party cadres is far better, above average, compared to others,” Bahlil said in his speech. Even so, Bahlil admitted he was not satisfied with the achievement of 102 Golkar seats in the DPR. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources said the quality of Golkar Party cadres still needs to be improved. “However, in my opinion, I am not satisfied. I think, of the 102 seats we have in parliament, there are still many that we need to upgrade together, to learn together,” he said. Bahlil stressed that the Golkar Party must conduct regeneration. He also asked the Golkar Party to adapt in facing the 2029 Election. “Ladies and gentlemen, in the 2029 Election, the number of voters aged 17 to 50 is 73 percent, Bang Ical, 73 percent. If Golkar is unable to adapt, we will be left behind. This is not a matter of the smart defeating the stupid or the strong defeating the weak; this is a matter of the fast defeating the slow. So, we as a party must carry out internal corrections. And one of the things we must do, in my opinion, is the regeneration process,” he said. The Golkar Training of Trainers event was then deemed important as part of the regeneration process. Bahlil asked the ToT participants to be serious in following the training. “Now, this ToT, in my opinion, is very important. I ask the friends participating in this ToT to be serious. Serious. And to all DPR RI members, make them participants. Make it mandatory, so they know which is the party’s interest and which is personal interest. If there is no filter controlling us, it is difficult,” he said.
