Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has stated that the construction of a 100 Gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power plant will deliver numerous positive impacts.

These include state budget savings from reduced energy subsidies and the creation of new employment opportunities.

Bahlil conveyed this while delivering his report to President Prabowo Subianto at the launch of the 100 GWp Solar Power Plant Programme in Jembrana Regency, Bali.

“The total investment, Mr President, for 100 Gigawatts is approximately US$73 billion, or equivalent to more than Rp 1,140 trillion,” Bahlil said in his statement on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

“From this total, we can achieve annual subsidy efficiency of Rp 73.9 trillion and create approximately 5.52 million jobs,” he added.

According to Bahlil, once the programme is formally incorporated into the Draft State Revenue and Expenditure Budget for the 2027 fiscal year, the government will immediately accelerate the project.

This is intended to strengthen national energy independence and resilience, as well as to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

In this initial phase, the government is conducting a groundbreaking for solar power projects with a total capacity of 5.3 GWp. In Bali specifically, the capacity being built reaches 1,000 megawatts and is equipped with battery energy storage.

Beyond the economic impact, Bahlil said the project also has the potential to deliver significant benefits in reducing carbon emissions.

“If we are able to implement all of this, the emissions reduction would be 140 million tonnes of CO2 per year, with a carbon economic value of Rp 6.31 trillion,” he said.
