Bahlil Teases East Java Deputy Governor to Join Golkar: 'Are You Starting to Waver?'
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia jokingly courted East Java Deputy Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak to join his party during the inauguration of Golkar Regional Leadership Council officials across East Java in Surabaya on Sunday (15/2).
"How about it, Mr Deputy Governor — are you starting to waver? I can see you're beginning to sway. If your heart is already feeling comfortable, then why not?" said Bahlil, drawing laughter from the thousands of party cadres in attendance, as reported by Antara.
Emil is a member of the Democrat Party and currently serves as chairman of its East Java Regional Leadership Council. He attended the event representing East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, who was unable to be present.
In his address, Bahlil discussed Golkar's good relations with several parties including NasDem, Hanura, Gerindra and the Democrats.
"If any of our cadres go to another party, they haven't left — they've merely gone on a temporary migration. If they feel homesick, they're welcome to come back. We're one house, just different rooms," Bahlil said.
Bahlil stated that Golkar continues to strengthen its organisational consolidation down to the district and city levels. Structural solidarity was described as the key to facing future political agendas.
In addition to provincial and regional officials, the inauguration was attended by approximately three thousand cadres. The event was also witnessed by representatives of political party leaders at the East Java level.
