Bahlil Targets Crude Oil Imports from Russia to Arrive in April, LPG to Follow

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has targeted the crude oil imported from Russia to be delivered to Indonesia starting in April 2026.

“If it’s for crude, perhaps in these months (April) it can (be sent to Indonesia). Insha’Allah,” said Bahlil at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, on Friday, 17 April 2026.

However, Bahlil acknowledged that the purchase of LPG from Russia is currently still in the finalisation process. Discussions are still centred on what percentage of LPG will be imported from Russia relative to Indonesia’s total needs.

Bahlil explained that Indonesia’s LPG needs in 2026 are projected to reach 10 million tonnes, with domestic production capacity at only 1.6 million tonnes. Thus, around 8.4 million tonnes must indeed be fulfilled through imports.

Before the Iran-United States war, 70-75 percent of Indonesia’s LPG imports came from the US. Then 20 percent from the Middle East, and the remainder from several other countries, one of which is Australia.

“Once Saudi Aramco was hit by missiles in their factories, in their industries, it will certainly affect the global market,” said Bahlil.

Therefore, continued Bahlil, Indonesia will import crude oil and LPG from Russia as an alternative source of crude oil and LPG that has previously been imported from the Middle East region.

The Indonesia-Russia cooperation is the result of energy sector negotiations that took place during President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia’s visit to Russia on Monday, 13 April 2026.

“In my meeting with the Russian Minister of Energy and government, it has been agreed that we will receive support. We will buy crude from Russia. We are also doing this in other countries, including America,” he said.
