Bahlil Targets Crude Oil from Russia to be Shipped to Indonesia This Month

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has assured that crude oil imports from Russia will enter Indonesia in April. This is the result of diplomatic efforts undertaken by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to Russia last week.

Bahlil explained that this diversification of energy sources is a direct instruction from President Prabowo Subianto to secure domestic energy needs. He emphasised that the government cannot rely on just one supplier country to maintain the stability of national oil reserves.

“And in my meeting with the Russian energy minister and government, it has been agreed that we will receive support; we will buy crude from Russia. And we are also doing this in other countries, including the United States,” he said when met at the Ministry of ESDM office in Jakarta on Friday (17/4/2026).

Bahlil stated that the execution process for shipping crude oil from Russia is targeted to take place soon or by the end of this month. In addition to crude oil, the government is also finalising an agreement for LPG supplies from Russia to meet the continuously increasing domestic needs.

“Oh, for crude, probably this month. LPG is still in finalisation,” Bahlil replied when asked about the shipment schedule.

This policy also serves as the government’s anticipation against potential disruptions in the global energy market supply. With the additional supply from Russia, the government hopes to maintain national energy resilience so that public needs can be well served.

“The important thing is that as the government, under the direction of Mr President, I ensure that all our crude needs are available, and we must seek to ensure that the interests of the people are served,” he stressed.
