JAKARTA - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that Indonesia’s oil reserves will increase to suffice for one month’s consumption, or 30 days.

Currently, Indonesia’s oil reserves are only sufficient for 21 to 25 days of consumption.

This increase comes alongside the addition of fuel oil (BBM) storage facilities equivalent to about seven days’ supply, located in Karimun Regency, Riau Islands.

“Now, alhamdulillah, our energy buffer is 21 to 25 days, and now there’s an addition of another seven days from Karimun. This is what we’re communicating to achieve one month,” Bahlil said at the Ministry of ESDM in Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026).

He mentioned that the construction of this infrastructure is targeted to start in May.

“The rest, we’re carrying out construction, in May, insyaAllah, pray for us that we start building,” he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had instructed Bahlil to increase the national BBM reserves. The Head of State requested that they be raised to 90 days or three months.

The increase in storage is aimed at maintaining national energy resilience amid escalating conflicts in the Middle East, which could disrupt global supplies.

“The President’s directive is for us to immediately build storage so that our reserves can reach three months,” Bahlil revealed after a meeting with Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (4/3/2026).
