Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia explained that trials of B50 biodiesel on various heavy equipment have been successful. The trials have been ongoing for six months and are proceeding well, including on ships and trains. “B50 has been under trial for nearly six months on several pieces of equipment such as heavy machinery, ships, trains, trucks, and it is still ongoing. But it will soon be finalised, and up to today, the trials have, alhamdulillah, gone quite well,” he stated, quoted from Kontan on Tuesday (7/4/2026). In the future, the government plans to stop importing diesel. “This is why the government has been seeking alternative energy from the start. You all used to laugh at me when I proposed B50 and ethanol. Imagine now, if we hadn’t diversified, who would we rely on,” Bahlil said. He hopes that all elements of the nation will support this energy transition because it is all for the good of the Indonesian people. Its implementation directly to the public could save the state finances by Rp 48 trillion. It would also reduce the use of fossil-based fuels by 4 million kilolitres. “Pertamina is ready to implement the blending, and this has the potential to reduce the use of fossil-based fuel oil (BBM) by 4 million kilolitres,” explained Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday (31/3/2026). “For the implementation of B50, production is sufficient. However, because production is stagnant, if there is a shortfall, it is likely that export volumes will be reduced,” explained the Chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (Gapki) Eddy Martono. On 1 July 2026, the government will officially enforce B50.
