Bahlil Says 3 kg CNG Cylinder Trials Nearly Complete, Only Fire Test Remains

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has revealed that the development of a 3-kilogram Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinder, designed as an alternative to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), is entering its final testing phase. According to Bahlil, he recently received a briefing on the progress of the 3 kg CNG cylinder. The testing process is currently being finalised by Lemigas before the product can be deployed. “I was presented with the results for the 3-kilogram cylinder and its valve just three days ago. Now Lemigas is conducting the final test,” he said when met at the Ministry of ESDM on Monday (3/8/2026). Based on the report he received, only one stage of testing remains: the fire test, which assesses the cylinder’s endurance under extreme conditions. This test involves exposing the cylinder to heat of approximately 850 degrees Celsius. “According to the information I received, only the fire test is left. It is tested by being fired upon with heat of 850 degrees. That is the only test remaining,” he stated. When asked whether the fire test was being conducted in Indonesia or China, Bahlil confirmed it was taking place in both countries. “Just pray for it. Pray for the best for our beloved Motherland,” he said.
