Bahlil Reveals Reasons for Urging Public to Conserve LPG Usage
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, explained the reasons behind his request for the public to conserve LPG usage while cooking.
He stated that Indonesia’s national LPG needs are still met by imports amounting to 70%.
Therefore, public support is needed to use LPG prudently amid the Middle East conflict disrupting global energy supplies.
He explained that, fundamentally, the current national LPG supply is secure to meet public needs.
Procurement from several countries is also proceeding as planned.
However, Bahlil stressed the importance of collective efforts to maintain energy resilience amid current global dynamics.
“Whatever the global situation, it requires all of us to make an effort. Once again, I say that this effort is to be more prudent in using energy,” he said.
“Even if we have the money, but if the goods have to be competed for with other countries. Well, we really have to guard it. That’s what I mean,” Bahlil continued.
Previously, Bahlil urged the public to conserve energy following disruptions in global energy distribution due to the Middle East conflict.
Bahlil gave an example that when using LPG at home, the stove should be turned off immediately after the food is cooked to avoid waste.
“I appeal, I suggest that we all use energy wisely. For example, when cooking with LPG, if the food is already cooked, don’t waste the stove,” said Bahlil during a working visit in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Thursday (26/3/2026).
In addition, Bahlil also reminded the public not to buy fuel excessively or engage in panic buying. He assessed that fuel consumption should be adjusted to daily needs.
