Bahlil Reveals President Forms Task Force to Accelerate Energy Transition
Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto continues to push for a clean and renewable energy transition by forming the Energy Transition Acceleration Task Force (Satgas Percepatan Transisi Energi). This was announced by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
‘We have been given a mandate by the President as the chair of the Task Force to implement and translate this rapidly,’ Bahlil told reporters after taking part in a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.
According to Bahlil, the formation of the task force is the government’s step to accelerate the development of 100 gigawatts of solar power generation (PLTS) up to the conversion of motorcycles to electric power. He said the effort is targeted to be achieved within three to five years.
‘The President has stated that a maximum of 3-4 years, even faster if possible,’ said the Golkar Party’s central leadership chairman.
The acceleration of the energy transition, Bahlil said, not only increases the use of clean energy but can also drive efficiency. He assessed that converting diesel-powered plants (PLTD) to solar energy can also reduce electricity subsidies.
‘Because by converting PLTD to PLTS, it will lead to efficiency in our electricity subsidies,’ Bahlil said.
