Bahlil Reveals Plans to Adjust Non-Subsidised Fuel Prices for Pertamina and Private Fuel Stations
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has stated that certainty regarding the adjustment of non-subsidised fuel prices, for types such as Pertamina’s Pertamax series and similar products from business entities or private fuel stations, is almost finalised in discussions.
“We just need to see when the adjustment will be made. My feeling, based on our meetings with Pertamina and private business entities, is that it is almost done,” Bahlil said at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jakarta on Friday, 17 April 2026.
According to him, the adjustment of non-subsidised fuel prices is in line with Ministerial Decree (Kepmen) ESDM No. 245.K/MG.01/MEM.M/2022, which amends Kepmen No. 62 K/12/MEM/2020, referring to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 11 of 2022 on the Calculation of Retail Selling Prices for Fuel Oil.
The decree regulates the Basic Price Formula in the Calculation of Retail Selling Prices for General Fuel Oil Types, specifically Petrol and Diesel Distributed Through Public Fuel Filling Stations.
“In accordance with the 2022 Minister of ESDM Regulation, non-subsidised fuel is based on market prices,” he said.
It is known that Pertamina, along with business entities managing public fuel filling stations (SPBU) such as Shell, Vivo, and bp, have held non-subsidised fuel prices since early April 2026. However, global oil prices have surged due to the war between Iran and the United States (US)-Israel.
Global oil prices for Brent and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) are currently in the range of US$90–US$100 per barrel, higher than the average oil price in January 2026, for example, Brent (ICE) at US$64 per barrel.
The holding of non-subsidised fuel prices was initiated by a statement from the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, who conveyed that the government ensures that fuel prices, both subsidised and non-subsidised, will not increase.
That decision was taken after coordination with the Ministry of ESDM and PT Pertamina, in accordance with instructions from President Prabowo Subianto. At that time, the government also assured that national fuel is in a safe and available condition, so the public is asked not to panic or worry about rumours of price increases.
