Bahlil Reveals Outcomes of Prabowo's Visit to Tokyo! Rp300 Trillion Energy Investment Flows In...
President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Tokyo has become a pivotal moment in accelerating national strategic investments, particularly in the energy sector and downstream processing. The main focus of the visit centred on two major priorities: accelerating the national energy transition and developing the strategic Masela Block project. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia emphasised that he received direct instructions from the President to ensure both agendas proceed optimally and yield tangible progress. Certainty for the Giant Masela Block Project Bahlil stated that the Masela Block project is now entering a more solid phase after a long journey spanning decades. This certainty is reflected in the basic development plan value (DPOD) of around US$20 billion, with additional investments for environmentally friendly technology. “The total project value is US$20.9 billion because it adds US$1 billion for CCS; the DPOD is US$20 billion. However, with the current geopolitical developments, it is likely to increase. So the total investment is approximately over Rp300 trillion,” Bahlil revealed. With this massive scale of investment, the project symbolises Indonesia’s seriousness in integrating low-emission technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS). Key to National Energy Resilience Furthermore, the acceleration of this project’s implementation is deemed crucial in strengthening national energy resilience, especially in the oil and gas sector. The government views the Masela Block as a new backbone that can elevate Indonesia’s position in the global energy market.
