Bahlil Reveals How Indonesia Will Conserve Energy Amid Global Supply Uncertainty
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has announced that the government is preparing several energy efficiency measures, particularly amid rising uncertainty in global energy supply and surging crude oil prices.
According to Bahlil, the government is conducting various policy simulations to determine the most appropriate efficiency steps. These measures focus on safeguarding state finances and optimising all available domestic energy resources.
“We will also assess the importance and steps we must take to implement efficiency,” Bahlil stated at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Bahlil revealed that one measure the government is considering is accelerating the use of biofuels through increased biodiesel and bioethanol blending. The government plans to boost biodiesel implementation with a higher blending ratio of up to B50 and promote bioethanol E20 application for petrol-type fuel.
“If fossil fuel oil prices exceed US$100 per barrel, it would be more cost-effective for us to implement blending. For diesel, we would increase from B40 to B50. Or we could make it mandatory for petrol and that would be cleaner,” he said.
