Bahlil Reveals 11,000 Villages Still Without Electricity

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has revealed that tens of thousands of villages in Indonesia are still without electricity. He said the government of President Prabowo Subianto is working to ensure that electricity services reach these villages.

“We know that of the total number of villages without electricity, there are roughly around 11,000,” said the Golkar Party Chairman at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 May 2026.

Of that number, he said, the government has completed electricity supply to around 1,400 villages under the 2025 Village Electricity Programme. Bahlil said Prabowo will officially inaugurate the programme on 14 August 2026.

According to Bahlil, the 2025 Village Electricity Programme is the government’s step to accelerate the equalisation of electricity access across various regions, particularly those that have so far gone without electricity services.

The former investment minister said the villages to be inaugurated by Prabowo are part of the 2025 Village Electricity Programme whose work has been fully completed. “The work is finished. So we are no longer talking about the budget because it is about to be inaugurated,” he said.

The government, Bahlil said, has also prepared the budget for the 2026 and 2027 Village Electricity Programmes. He expressed hope that the programmes can run according to target. “Now it is just a matter of implementation,” he said.

Bahlil said President Prabowo has set a target for all villages and hamlets in Indonesia to have access to electricity by 2029, the final year of Prabowo’s term in office.

As of the end of 2025, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had disbursed a budget of Rp 4.35 trillion for the village electricity programme and free electricity connections for low-income households, through assignments given to PLN.
