Bahlil Reports to Prabowo on Fuel Stocks and Stalled Mining Permits, Here's What He Said
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto summoned the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia to the State Palace on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
According to Bahlil, he only provided a report on national oil and gas (migas) stocks up to the management of mining permits in forest areas.
Bahlil stated that he reported to the President on the current state of national energy reserves. He assured that the national energy stocks are in a safe condition and above the minimum limits set by the government. This includes fuel oil (BBM), LPG, and crude oil.
“I reported to the President earlier regarding our fuel readiness up to today, as well as LPG and crude; everything is above the national minimum standard. So, insha’Allah, there are no problems,” Bahlil told reporters at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
In addition to energy matters, Bahlil also conveyed developments in the evaluation of Mining Business Permits (IUP) that are deemed not to be operating as they should. The government is currently organising several IUPs, especially those located in forest areas.
According to him, there are still several companies that have obtained complete permits, but their mining activities have never been carried out.
“Secondly, we reported on the organisation of mining permits, particularly in forest areas, and some IUPs that have not been utilised as they should. That means they already have IUPs and complete permits, but they have never been operated,” he said.
Bahlil added that the evaluation is a direct instruction from the President about two months ago. His side is now continuously monitoring the progress of the organisation process.
“This has been instructed by the President about two months ago, if I’m not mistaken, to conduct an evaluation, and I reported the developments,” he stated.
As is known, President Prabowo Subianto ordered Minister of ESDM Bahlil Lahadalia to revoke hundreds of Mining Business Permits (IUP) that are unclear.
According to him, this needs to be done to defend national and public interests.
“Brothers and sisters, I have also ordered the Minister of ESDM; I received a report that there are hundreds of unclear mines, or unclear IUPs in protected forests, and in the forests—I checked, the Minister of Forestry I checked, alhamdulillah, this Minister of Forestry is okay too, he hasn’t given permission to cut wood yet,” Prabowo stated during the Working Meeting of the Government Members of the Red and White Cabinet at the Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
“So, there are several hundred (mines), the Minister of ESDM should evaluate immediately. If unclear, revoke all those IUPs. We don’t have time anymore; it’s too much, no pity now, we are only defending national and public interests. Friends’ interests, family group interests, that’s secondary,” he emphasised.
“Evaluate immediately, how many days to me. 2 weeks? Nice try 2 weeks. 1 week,” he ordered.
“We revoke all IUPs; if the principles are not right, we revoke them; they must be in the hands of the state, and we can then strengthen our institutions and agencies,” he concluded.
