JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia reported to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto that the stocks of fuel oil and LPG in Indonesia are in a safe condition.

“I reported to Mr President earlier regarding our fuel readiness up to today, as well as LPG and crude oil; all are above the national minimum standards. So, insyaallah, there are no problems,” Bahlil said at the Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

He mentioned that Prabowo has ordered the evaluation of companies holding mining business permits (IUP) but not conducting activities.

“I also reported on the arrangement of mining permits, particularly in forest areas and some IUPs that have not been utilised as they should. That is, they already have IUP, the permits are complete, but they have never been operated,” he explained.

“This has been instructed by Mr President about one month ago, two months ago I think, to be evaluated. And I reported the developments on that,” Bahlil added.

In Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan, shortages occurred for several days.

Residents also complained about the unavailability of retail fuel sales in the city.

Fuel shortages also happened in Labuan Bajo for several days.

These shortages not only hampered land transportation but also disrupted the operations of wooden boats and speedboats.

Economist from Andalas University (Unand), Syafruddin Karimi, stated that small fishermen are the most vulnerable group affected due to their high dependence on subsidised fuel for going to sea.

“When fishermen have difficulty obtaining Pertalite, the problem has entered the heart of the coastal economy. The impact is quickly felt in the market, fish supply drops, people’s protein prices rise, and fish traders lose sales volume,” said Syafruddin on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
