The chairman of Golkar party, Bahlil Lahadalia, released 20 free coach convoy units for the 2026 Eid homecoming (mudik) programme at the central office of Golkar party’s leadership council (DPP) in Slipi, West Jakarta, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. The coach convoy was destined for various regions in Java.

“Safe travels, everyone. I hope you reach your destination well,” said Bahlil at the DPP office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

Bahlil stated that Golkar has been implementing the free mudik programme for six years. He viewed this programme as a form of support from Golkar party towards the Islamic major holiday and migrant workers living in Jakarta.

According to a report from Ridwan Bae, chairman of the Golkar Free Mudik Programme committee, the 20 coach units were destined for several regions in Yogyakarta, Central Java, East Java, and West Java. The programme facilitated approximately one thousand people. Golkar also distributed food parcels and pocket money to the homebound travellers.

Bahlil stated that he would also undertake the 2026 Eid holiday return journey. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources wished to spend the Eid holiday break with his family in his hometown of Fakfak, West Papua.

“As a village person, celebrating Eid in Jakarta is far less important than returning to my village,” he said.

Beyond serving as a moment for reflection on the return to human nature during the holiday, Bahlil also interpreted Eid as an opportunity to encourage regional economic growth. This relates to the trend of increased consumer spending during Ramadan and Eid, influenced by the provision of holiday allowances.
