Jakarta, VIVA – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has proposed a budget of Rp 815.56 billion in the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) for an electric stove programme intended to reduce dependence on LPG imports.

Bahlil made this statement during a working meeting with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Senayan, Jakarta.

“The energy we are pushing for the future is not just about LPG, but also electric stoves, CNG, and various others. The budget we are proposing (for electric stoves) is Rp 815.56 billion,” said Bahlil on Monday, 15 June 2026.

He explained that the electric stove programme aims to decrease Indonesia’s reliance on imported LPG. To implement this programme, Bahlil requested Commission XII of the DPR, which oversees the energy and mineral resources sector, to identify which regions require electric stoves.

“This is so we can ensure cooperation and synchronisation,” Bahlil added.

In addition to electric stoves, Bahlil also proposed a budget allocation of Rp 635.24 billion in the 2027 RAPBN for an electric motorcycle conversion programme. This budget will be managed by the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (Ditjen EBTKE) under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Both budget allocations for these new programmes in the 2027 RAPBN were submitted by Bahlil, subject to budget availability.

It is noted that the discourse regarding the transition from LPG stoves to electric stoves was previously discussed during the presidency of Joko Widodo. However, in September 2022, PT PLN (Persero) cancelled the programme to convert 3kg LPG stoves to electric ones to maintain public comfort during the post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

Following the surge in energy prices caused by the conflict between the US-Israel and Iran, the Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Eddy Soeparno, has once again urged the government to proceed with the transition from gas to electric stoves.

Eddy stated that transitioning from gas to electric stoves would be more cost-effective compared to the costs incurred for LPG import subsidies. The shift to electric stoves has drawn Eddy’s attention because LPG prices are heavily influenced by soaring global oil prices.

“As is well known, Indonesia imports 75–80 per cent of its LPG needs, the price of which tracks closely with crude oil prices,” he said.
