Bahlil Plans Coal RKAB Revision, Miners Speak Out
Amid global commodity price fluctuations, the government, through Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, has opened the possibility of revising the 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) for the mineral and coal sector. The government previously cut coal production by approximately 190 million tonnes to 600 million tonnes, while nickel ore was reduced by around 100 million tonnes to between 260 and 270 million tonnes. Indonesian Mining and Energy Forum (IMEF) Chairman Singgih Widagdo assessed the production management measures positively, stating they ensure domestic coal needs are met. He noted that when coal prices rise, increasing production presents an opportunity to boost state revenue, but the national production ceiling, potentially in the range of 670 to 700 million tonnes, must be observed. He also stressed that any relaxation must clearly specify whether it is intended for export or domestic requirements.
