JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Bahlil Lahadalia as the Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition on Thursday (1/10/2026). In his new position, the Chairman of the Golkar Party will also continue to serve concurrently as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

This appointment marks a new chapter in Bahlil’s government career. Previously, the man born in Banda, Maluku, on 7 August 1976, has served as the Minister of ESDM since August 2024, after having been entrusted as the Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

Before entering government, Bahlil was known as an entrepreneur and previously led the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) for the 2015-2019 period. His career began in the business world after completing his education at STIE Port Numbay, Jayapura. He subsequently developed several companies, including PT Rifa Capital, PT Bersama Papua Unggul, and PT Dwijati Sukses.

Bahlil’s career in government began in 2019 when President Joko Widodo appointed him as the Head of BKPM. Two years later, in April 2021, Bahlil was inaugurated as the Minister of Investment. In August 2024, he transitioned to become the Minister of ESDM and was subsequently retained in the Prabowo administration’s cabinet.

In the energy sector, Bahlil also previously received a mandate as the Daily Chairman of the National Energy Council (DEN). In that capacity, he outlined several government focuses in the energy field, including energy sovereignty, increasing energy security, energy independence, and energy self-sufficiency.

Regarding his personal wealth, the State Officials’ Wealth Report (LHKPN) submitted by Bahlil records total assets of Rp 337.31 billion. This data was reported on 11 April 2025 in his capacity as the Minister of ESDM. This figure is higher than the LHKPN reported at the end of 2023, which stood at Rp 310.42 billion.

With his new role as Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, Bahlil will be positioned closely to two major government agendas: increasing the added value of natural resources through downstreaming and developing energy transition policies. His appointment also places Bahlil’s experience in the investment and energy sectors within a broader scope of coordination.

This mandate continues Bahlil’s role in the government, which in recent years has intersected with agendas regarding investment, natural resource management, downstreaming, and energy. By continuing to serve as the Minister of ESDM, Bahlil now holds responsibility for both the coordination and execution of policies within the energy sector.
