Bahlil Jests Nusron Wore Sunglasses Because England Lost to Argentina
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia made a joke at the expense of Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid during the inauguration of the Abadi Masela liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in the Tanimbar Islands, Maluku. He quipped that Nusron was wearing sunglasses because he was sad that his favourite team, England, had lost to Argentina.
Bahlil initially greeted President Prabowo Subianto and thanked him for taking the time to inaugurate the Masela gas project. He noted that the people of Maluku had enthusiastically prepared a welcome for Prabowo at the inauguration site.
“Our respected Bapak President Haji Prabowo Subianto. We express our gratitude from all the people of the Tanimbar Islands Regency,” Bahlil said, as seen on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Thursday (16/7/2026).
“As soon as I landed, the billboards from the airport to the event location, Sir, only featured the face of the President. This shows the love of the people of the Tanimbar Islands for the President, and we thank the President for gracing this groundbreaking ceremony,” he continued.
Bahlil then acknowledged the attending cabinet members, including Nusron Wahid. He repeated his jest that Nusron was wearing dark glasses because he was mourning England’s loss to Argentina.
“Our respected ministers of the Red and White Cabinet. Mr President, we report that with us in Tanimbar today is the Minister of National Development Planning. There is Mr Nusron, Mr President, his glasses are black. Perhaps because England lost to Argentina, so he is sad. Then the Chief of the Presidential Staff Office is also present,” he said.
He also greeted Maluku Governor Hendrik Lewerissa. Bahlil praised Hendrik as a Gerindra Party cadre whom he considered very adept.
“Our respected Governor of Maluku, my senior, Mr Hendrik Lewerissa and the ranks of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum. This Mr Hendrik is a Gerindra cadre, right? So the Governor is truly top-notch,” he remarked.
