Bahlil: Industrial Gas Price Hike in West Java Due to Supply Shift from Eastern Indonesia LNG

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia explained that the increase in industrial gas prices in West Java, Banten, and Jakarta is a consequence of declining local gas lifting, which has forced the region to rely on LNG supplies from Maluku, Sulawesi, and Papua. He noted that industrial gas prices in East Java remain stable. Bahlil guaranteed that there will be no cuts to LNG export quotas in the second half of 2026, following previous cuts in 2025 to meet domestic needs. The price surge has prompted a response from the House of Representatives, with Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad preparing to mediate after receiving reports that a major ceramics factory in Bekasi could lay off over 50,000 workers. Dasco has scheduled a meeting with the President Director of PT Pertamina to discuss solutions for the affected companies.
