Bahlil: First Phase of 100 GW Solar Power Plant Programme to be Inaugurated in Bali

Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has stated that the inauguration of the first phase of the 100 GW solar power plant (PLTS) programme will be conducted in Bali by President Prabowo Subianto. “I am currently trying to secure the President’s schedule for the inauguration of the first phase of the 100 GW PLTS. We might hold it in Bali,” Bahlil said when met at the Ministry of ESDM office in Jakarta on Monday. On that occasion, Bahlil also confirmed that the 100 GW PLTS has been included in the revision of PLN’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) for 2025–2034. “We are creating a masterplan with proper planning,” he stated. The government is preparing the initial development phase of a 17 GW capacity solar power plant as part of the larger 100 GW PLTS project being promoted to support the national energy transition. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) have already prepared 24,000 hectares of land in Java to support the 100 GW solar power programme. Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot stated that for infrastructure such as transmission lines and the availability of PLN substations, the government will connect them to the power plants located on the 24,000-hectare site. Yuliot conveyed that in the initial stage, the Ministry of ESDM is accelerating the development of 17 GW first. The development of the 100 GW PLTS is said to have the potential to reduce energy imports with a substitution value ranging from USD 14.4 billion to USD 28.9 billion, as well as contribute up to USD 26.6 billion to the gross domestic product (GDP).
