The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has admitted that his department has reached an agreement with the Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, that the current moment is not appropriate for discussing coal export duties.

“My view and the decision of Minister Purbaya is that the timing is not yet right for us to conduct detailed discussions regarding coal export duties,” Bahlil stated at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 8 June 2026. He emphasised that, to date, no decision has been reached regarding the coal export duty discussions with the Minister of Finance.

Furthermore, with the establishment of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI), Bahlil noted that coal, which was previously exported directly by companies, will now be sold through DSI. Consequently, the government still needs to study a better formulation for this process. “Until now, no decision has been made, and that is my agreement with the Minister of Finance. We are waiting for the formulation we are creating,” he added.

It is noted that the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that companies exporting natural resources (SDA) are required to report their export activities to PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) starting from 1 June 2026. This reporting will be conducted through the Customs Excise Information System and Automation (CEISA) 4.0 platform, owned by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise under the Ministry of Finance.

Previously, exporting companies were only required to report to the Directorate General of Customs and Excise via the same platform. Airlangga stated that the implementation of this new reporting mechanism will initially begin with three export commodities: coal, ferroalloy, and palm oil. The government will continue to evaluate this new mechanism during its first three months of implementation before it is fully implemented starting 1 January 2027. Airlangga expressed hope that entrepreneurs and exporters would have sufficient time to adjust during the six-month transition period for the new export reporting mechanism.
