Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has revealed that the government is currently discussing adjustments to the prices of non-subsidised fuel oil (BBM). These discussions are being held with PT Pertamina (Persero) and private operators of Public Fuel Filling Stations (SPBU).

Bahlil emphasised that during the ongoing discussions, the prices of non-subsidised fuel currently available in the market remain unchanged.

“For non-subsidised fuel up to today, we, along with the Pertamina team and other private SPBUs, are still in discussions until the time is right. As for when that time will be, just wait. So what does that mean? There has been no price adjustment yet; it remains the same,” Bahlil stated during a press conference, quoted on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Regarding the target timeline for completion and announcement of the new prices, Bahlil requested time for the government and businesses to formulate the most appropriate figure.

According to him, the rapid fluctuations in global oil prices due to geopolitical tensions are the main consideration in determining the economic price of non-subsidised BBM.

“Regarding the existing prices, we know the fluctuations for non-subsidised fuel are continuous. Give us time to resolve this properly. Resolve it well, wisely, and truly reasonably,” he added.

Meanwhile, for subsidised fuel, Bahlil assured that the government will not adjust prices, either up or down. Subsidised fuel prices are set to remain flat to protect the purchasing power of lower-income groups from the impact of global economic pressures.

“There will be no upward or downward price adjustments for subsidised fuel. It means flat, still using the current prices. The President always pays attention to the interests of the people below, especially our less fortunate brothers and sisters, who must receive greater attention,” he stressed.

Based on CNBC Indonesia’s field observations, fuel prices at Pertamina SPBUs have indeed not changed, nor have those at BP-AKR. Meanwhile, there has been no fuel sales at Shell’s SPBUs yet.
