Jakarta – Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia accompanied President Prabowo Subianto at the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, to ensure national energy stability through energy diversification.

“The current global energy situation is uncertain. We must diversify energy so that when one energy source is difficult to obtain, we still have other energy sources,” Bahlil stated, as quoted from Antara on Saturday, 9 May 2026.

Bahlil explained that this meeting was held to ensure energy resilience and security in the ASEAN region through energy diversification efforts, which is one of the keys to addressing the energy crisis currently affecting the global world.

“Fortunately, Indonesia has many alternative energy sources besides fossil fuels, which also play a strategic role in energy resilience efforts,” Bahlil said.

Blessed with abundant renewable energy potential, Indonesia has utilised various alternative energy sources as efforts to achieve energy resilience and independence.

The development of 100 Gigawatt Solar Power Plants (PLTS), the mandatory biodiesel that will soon be increased to 50 per cent, and the increased use of electric vehicles are the government’s main priority steps.

This statement aligns with what President Prabowo conveyed at the plenary session of the 48th ASEAN Summit.

President Prabowo stated that ASEAN countries must be prepared to face prolonged disruptions in energy supplies.

According to him, regional energy resilience cannot be built reactively but must be prepared proactively through a clear and forward-oriented approach.

President Prabowo also called on ASEAN heads of state to move quickly to switch to alternative energy sources, expand the utilisation of renewable energy, and strengthen preparedness for global scenarios.

“Energy diversification is no longer a choice. It is very important, it is necessary. We must move faster. We must go through alternative sources and we must prepare renewable energy,” the President said.

The President also invited ASEAN member countries to strengthen cooperation in building a more robust regional energy architecture to face global dynamics.
