Bahlil: Crude Oil from Russia to Arrive Soon
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that oil imports from Russia will soon reach Indonesia. The arrival of Russian oil will ensure national energy resilience. “For me, the most important thing is that all our stocks are available. And for (crude oil) from Russia, it will arrive soon,” Bahlil said, quoted from Antara on Saturday (2/5/2026). Currently, he said, the government is focusing on the availability of fuel oil (BBM), starting with diesel and petrol with various octane ratings. In such geopolitical situations, the government is obliged to secure BBM stocks. “In conditions like this, the state must ensure the availability of all types of BBM. That is far more important,” he said. In addition to crude oil, the government is also opening opportunities for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports from Russia. However, according to Bahlil, the plan is still in the discussion stage. Nevertheless, he assured that the national LPG stock is currently still above the national minimum threshold. “Up to now, all our LPG stocks are above the national minimum standard,” Bahlil said. No one knows when the war will end, and Indonesia is choosing its own path. “The current geopolitical conditions cannot be predicted by any country as to when they will end. In such conditions, energy management must be adjusted because all countries are seeking their own paths to safety,” Bahlil said, quoted from Kompas.com. National economic balance must be maintained, one of which is through diversification of BBM or developing new types of fuel such as B50, whose implementation closes the tap on diesel imports. “Next July will be B50. That is a way to convert our substitution of imports from B0 to B50. Where a mixture of CPO and methanol becomes Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) and this FAME is then mixed with B0. This is why we no longer import diesel,” Bahlil explained.
