Bahlil Claims Non-Subsidised Fuel Price Hike Was Carefully Calculated

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia has stated that the increase in non-subsidised fuel prices, including Pertamax, was based on careful calculations by both state-owned and private business operators. Despite the surge in Pertamax prices, Bahlil emphasised that the prices of subsidised fuel and LPG have not changed. “Meanwhile, non-subsidised prices are adjusting to the existing market price. Naturally, these calculations will be carried out wisely by our business operators, both Pertamina and other private players,” Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday evening, 11 June 2026.

Bahlil further stated that the government is currently formulating a policy scheme to maintain public purchasing power in the wake of the non-subsidised fuel price hike. “That is why, to protect the purchasing power of the people, we have not raised subsidised fuel prices at all. Meanwhile, the others are undergoing adjustments,” said the Chairman of the Golkar Party.

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga raised the prices of Pertamax and Pertamax Green on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. Pertamax RON 92, previously sold at Rp 12,300 per litre, surged to Rp 16,250 per litre. Meanwhile, Pertamax Green 95 rose from Rp 12,900 per litre to Rp 17,000 per litre. This increase occurred outside Pertamina’s regular schedule of announcing fuel price developments on the first of each month.

Bahlil Lahadalia also conveyed that the government has not yet decided on providing incentives for the public as a consequence of the non-subsidised fuel price increase. He merely stressed that the government is reviewing various policies, with lower-income groups as the priority. Bahlil assessed that users of non-subsidised fuel are generally people with good economic capacity. “We are exercising all alternatives. The important thing is that we protect our brothers and sisters in the lower economic strata. These are the ones receiving subsidies,” Bahlil said.
